Hisham: Wanita request for VP post not new

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno's demand for a vice president post to be allocated to the wing is nothing new and has been brought up before.
Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said that transformation within the party must be made holistically and the party leadership has their own agenda in realising the changes to be made.
He said Wanita Umno leaders can bring up the issue at the wing's assembly to be discussed as long as it does not disrupt the unity between Umno party members.

"In my opinion, the demand made by Wanita Umno is a healthy development for the progress of the party," he said, to reporters at Putra World Trade Centre here.
Hishammuddin said the party will not hesitate to place any of its members who have what it takes to fight for Umno cause to the party's top leadership.
"The party never runs away from bringing in changes and improvement for the betterment of Umno," he said.
"the process of the party's transformation is ongoing as we speak, especially at the party's annual general assembly that we are having now," he added.
Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil earlier in her policy speech said a vice president's post should be allocated for women representatives.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said the party did not make a u-turn in its stand on the Sedition Act as it must be first reviewed thoroughly before the decision to repeal or retain the act could be made.
He said the public needs to understand that the act is needed to protect each and every race and religion in the country from abuse and is not limited to certain races only.
