JOHOR BARU: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) said only former Nepalese soldiers can work as security guards in private security agencies in the country.
This is only applicable to foreign workers.
"This is a requirement of the Home Affairs Ministry," he said to reporters after officiating the Malaysian Auxiliary Police Association Convention, today.
He urged the public to inform the police if they know of any Nepalese security guards who are not former soldiers.
"If you know of any such security guards please let us know as they may be working for illegal agencies," he said.
Khalid also said Bukit Aman will consider requests from schools who need auxiliary police.
Bernama reported Khalid saying that the police will help the school authorities tackle bullying among students.
"We will study the application for auxiliary police under existing provisions and upon completion, we could approve the request shortly," he said.
On auxiliary police membership, Khalid hoped organisations and agencies involved could help raise the existing number.
"The total number of auxiliary police personnel approved was 40,000 and so far, 22,093 posts have been filled," he said.
Nevertheless, the police understand the constraints faced by organisations and agencies involved in filling the total membership.
Asked on the development to track down 40,000 gangsters in the country, Khalid said it was a continuous effort by the force.
Since the Prevention of Crime Act (PoCA) 1959 (2013 Amendment) was implemented in April last year, a total of 301 criminals had been nabbed.
