S’gor Umno want right to select G14 candidates

SELANGOR: Umno today urged the top party leadership to give them the right to select credible candidates to contest in the coming 14th general election (GE14).
The Selangor delegate from the Subang division, Datuk Zein Isma Ismail said this was because the Barisan Nasional's (BN) defeat in the state was due to the
selection of wrong candidates as well as the situation where "a ship has two captains".
"After we work hard and sweat in the next three years, don't repeat the old mistake. Give us the recognition to choose candidates who are eligible and who
we will introduce much earlier," he said when debating the presidential policy speech at the Umno general assembly.
He also proposed that the Supreme Council (MT) create the "foster father" approach in every selected state and parliamentary constituencies.
The Selangor Umno leadership was previously criticised by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who urged several Umno leaders in the state to retire after the defeat in the 12th and 13th general elections.
Zein Isma said the leadership must understand the concept of urban politics which incorporated three main thrusts namely the politics of defence, politics of attraction or engagement, and the politics of perception or issue management. – Bernama
