Eight secret society members held in Taiping operation

    TAIPING: Eight members of the Geng Sakai 24, Ang Beng Hoey and Sam Tai Coo secret societies were among 70 people apprehended in an integrated operation covering Taiping, Kerian and Manjung on Wednesday.
    Perak acting police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the gang members, aged between 25 and 40 years, were arrested in Kuala Sepetang and Pantai Remis between 2pm and midnight.
    "They comprised Geng Sakai 24 (three persons), Ang Beng Hoey (four persons) and Sam Tai Coo (one person).
    "Three of them were on the police wanted list for robbery, drug and fraud," he told reporters at Taiping police headquarters here today.
    The two day operation was mounted by 215 personnel and officers of various agencies such as Customs, Immigration, Forestry and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK).
    Paramasivam also said 23 individuals comprising three massage parlour caretakers, seven Chinese women and 13 Thai women were held for vice activities in Setiawan and Lumut.
    Police also detained 32 illegal immigrants in Simpang and Batu Pachor involving 28 Indonesians and four Myanmars," he said.
    He said seven men were also held for smuggling cigarettes and liquor in Pantai Remis, Tanjung Piandang and Kuala Sepetang.
    "From the smugglers, customs seized 579 cartons of cigarettes of various brands, 928 bottles of branded liquor and 90 boxes of firecrackers with a total value of RM40,898.
    "KPDNKK also confiscated 122,629 litres of diesel at the Bagan Panchor Fishermen Association worth RM269,783.80," he said.
    Meanwhile, A.Paramasivam said police also arrested 23 people involved in various drug offences in Kuala Sepetang, Kampung Seberang and Bagan Panchor, on Nov 3 and 4.
    "All of them were aged between 23 and 60 years old were held under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Drug Addiction Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983 and the Immigration Act.
    "Drugs weighing 15.2 grammes were seized included heroin (8.6 grammes), syabu (0.7 grammes), ganja (4.9 grammes) and Eramin 5 (two tablets)," he said. – Bernama
