PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar has set Jan 12 for case management of the civil suit filed by the family members of flight MH370 passengers.
Datuk Dr Arunan Selvaraj of Messrs Rusman Arunan and Associates, who filed the suit on behalf of the family members of passenger Jee Jing Hang against MAS and four other defendants on Oct 31, said the High Court has instructed the defendants to file their respective statements of defence by Dec 15.
In the first ever suit to be filed in Malaysia, Jee's family members, two underaged sons and wife Ng Pearl Ming, named MAS, the federal government, the director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation, director-general of the Immigration Department and the chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force as defendants.
The family members are suing MAS for alleged negligence and breach of contract and the other defendants for alleged negligence.
"We have been very much encouraged by the fact that many experts in related fields have contacted us and availed themselves to render their expert opinions in relation to this incident.
"What's even more encouraging is that a lot of parties with relevant and crucial information which forms the pivotal basis for our clients' case, have volunteered to come forward to assist," said co-counsel Gary Edward Chong in a statement.
Chong added that in the next two months, he along with Dr Arunan will be meeting with some new witnesses who seem to have new vital information on the matter.
