ALOR STAR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK), Kedah today issued a RM1,000 compound on a high-end clothes outlet here as part of its operation codenamed "Ops Bongkar".
Kedah KPDNKK Deputy Chief of Enforcement, Ridzuan Mat Isa said the compound was issued following two offences committed by the outlet for fraudulent pricing and using a measuring instrument which had expired.
He said Ops Bongkar began yesterday and would continue until Jan 4 to track down traders who committed offences relating to cheap sales.
"A survey conducted by KPDNKK found that the clothes outlet was offering false prices. They would raise the price of the clothes before offering a discount of as much as 90%.
"We tried to get the records for one month before the cheap sales but they failed to show the evidence, and our investigations found that the prices displayed were that of four years ago," he told reporters here today.
Ridzuan said the outlet had been issued a warning to reduce all the prices of the clothes on sale within one day, and further action would be taken if they failed to comply.
"The owner of the clothes outlet has pleaded guilty and paid the compound of RM1,000 for both offences. Besides the compound, we also seized six bundles of cloth valued at RM1,000 as evidence, as well as the measuring instrument which had expired.
"The case is being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Cheap Sale Price) Regulations (Amendments 2010) and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011," he said.
He said the KPDNKK would conduct operations on five clothes stores around Alor Setar to ensure that nobody takes advantage by having big sales at the end of the year.
"The operations today was the first location checked in Kedah under the Ops Bongkar and we will be visiting other clothes stores which are having cheap sales," he said. – Bernama
