SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) kept mum on the Palace's decision to revoke PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's datukship status.
Mohamed Azmin, who was officiating an event at the state secretariat building, refused to give any comment when swarmed by reporters.
"I have no comment, no comment," he kept saying.
He had turned down any attempts of reporters asking questions pertaining to Anwar's revoked title.
Anwar's datukship, which was conferred by the Selangor Palace in 1992, was revoked by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
"The decision was caused by Anwar's repeated questioning of the integrity of the Selangor Sultan and royal institution in resolving the Selangor Mentri Besar crisis, as well as his questioning of issues related to Islam," said the Sultan's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani in a statement issued today.
He added that Anwar's actions and behaviour showed that he was no longer fit to hold such a title.
Meanwhile, PKR state assemblyman Amirudin Shari said it is up to the Sultan of Selangor to make this decision, adding that the party was waiting for a response from Anwar himself.
"We are grateful if any of us are conferred with the honorary title. However, (even if the title is revoked) it would not be a hindrance for us to work for the rakyat," he said.
"With or without the title, we in Pakatan Rakyat will always work based on the constitution and fight for the people," he said when met by reporters at the state secretariat building here.
Amir, who is also the state part secretary, said Anwar can still be referred to with the "Datuk Seri" title and that there is no issue about his title.
