KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) is seeking to put forward a few proposals regarding amending the party constitution in the upcoming party National Conference 2014.
DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke told reporters that one of the proposals they will be raising is increasing the number of elected CEC members from 20 to 30.
He said the addition was to enable the party leadership to be more efficient as well as to allow young leaders to play a role in the party.
"We have also decided to allocate 30% of the CEC positions for women members because we want more women participation in the party's decision-making process.
"Thus, the new CEC line-up will see at least nine new women leaders," said Loke during a press conference at the party headquarters today.
Loke added that all the party state chairmen, DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) leaders and women chiefs who are not part of the CEC will be appointed as ex-officio in the CEC.
Apart from that proposal, Loke pointed out that the CEC will also be proposing to increase the number of disciplinary committee members to ensure disciplinary cases can be handled thoroughly and efficiently.
During the conference, which will be attended by 2,725 delegates, the party's direction in dealing with the impending Sarawak state election as well as the 14th general election (GE14) will be discussed in the policy speech presented by party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as well as be debated by the delegates.
The conference will be held at One City, Subang Jaya, on Dec 14.
