34 scientists get top award

    KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today conferred the 2014 Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) award on 34 research scientists.
    They were given the recognition for pushing the boundaries of research and development to generate new knowledge, make discoveries, create value-added opportunities and translate their research into meaningful and impactful outcomes that significantly contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the nation.
    They are Professor Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Raman of Universiti Malaya; Prof Dr Abdul Halim Mohamed Yatim (UTM), Professor Dr Abdul Kariem Mohd Arof (UM); Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Khalil Shawkataly (USM); Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Manaf Hashim (UTM); Prof Dr Abdul Rahman Omar (UPM); Prof Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman (UM); Prof Dr Ahmad Zuhairi Abdullah (USM); Assoc Prof Dr Che Mohd Ruzaidi Ghazali (UniMAPor Universiti Malaysia Perlis); Prof Dr Goi Bok Min (Utar); Prof Dr Hazizan Md Akil (USM) and Prof Dr Ishwar Sing Parhar (MUSM).
    Other recipients are Prof Dr Jamunarani S. Vadivelu (UM); Prof Dr Jinap Selamat (UPM); Brig-Gen Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Ibrahim (UniMAP); Prof Dr Khalijah Awang (UM); Prof Dr Kwai-Lin Thong (UM), Prof Dr Mariatti Jaafar @ Mustapha (USM); Prof Dr Masjuki Hassan (UM); Prof Dr Mohammad Nazri Mohd Ja'afar (UTM); and Prof Ir Dr Mohd Zainal Abidin Ab Kadir (UPM).
    Also receiving the award are Prof Dr Nasrudin Abd Rahim (UM); Prof Dr Noorsaadah A. Rahman (UM); Prof Dr Ramesh T. Subramaniam (UM); Prof Dr Rauzah Hashim (UM); Prof Dr Rosnah Mohd Zain (UM); Prof Dr S. Vikineswary Sabaratnam (UM); Prof Dr Shamala Devi Sekaran (UM); Prof Dr Sharifah Bee O. A. Abd Hamid (UM); Prof Ir Dr Sim Kok Swee; Prof Dr Syed Alwee Aljunid Syed Junid (UniMAP); Dr Tee Soo Hwang (Carif); Prof Dr Uda Hashim (UniMAP) and Prof Dr Wan Ahmad Tajuddin Wan Abdullah (UM).
    The TRSM initiative aims to identify and recognise the contributions of top-notch Malaysian research scientists and showcase them as experts in respective fields through the TRSM database.
    Since 2012, a total of 96 active research scientists have been selected to receive the award.
    To date, the TRSM database has collected various experts in agricultural sciences, applied sciences and technologies, biological sciences, biotechnology, chemical sciences, engineering sciences, environmental sciences, forestry sciences, humanities, marine sciences, and material sciences, among others.
