KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) should identify and ban 'hooligans' from entering any stadiums for life, to prevent a similar ruckus which happened in Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday night, after Malaysia lost to Vietnam 2-1 at the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin suggested that the move be done by the assosication, similar to that which had been done by the United Kingdom authorities in the 80s and 90s to prevent fights among fans and riots.
"We cannot compromise on this matter, and drastic measures needs to be taken against these hooligans who caused (the violence)," he told the Dewan Rakyat.
Khairy also said that the FAM and police should evaluate the Standard Operating Procedures in the stadiums to ensure the safety of spectators in the premises, as well as to prevent them from bringing illegal items such as flares and fireworks.
He was referring to Sunday's incident where local football fans attacked Vietnamese fans during the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final at the Shah Alam Stadium.
In addition to offering his apology to Vietnamese supporters, Khairy has also spoken to the Vietnamese Ambassador on the matter, and expressed hopes that the fans and the team would be safe as they travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, for the second leg of the tournament.
He had also lashed out at the Malaysian fans who had attacked the Vietnamese supporters, saying that this was not how Malaysians treat their guests.
