Former Kontena Nasional CEO charged with CBT of RM9.9m

SHAH ALAM: A former chief executive officer of Kontena Nasional Berhad, Hood Osman, was charged in the Sessions Court here today with criminal breach of trust, involving RM9.9 million of the company's funds.
Hood, 46, pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was charged with committing the offence, through eight cheques and two online transfers to a company, Artisan Jaya Logistics, at the Kontena Nasional's office at Batu 9, Jalan Klang Lama, Seri Setia, Petaling Jaya near here, between March 24, 2011, and Aug 24, 2012.
In the same court, the proprietor of Artisan Jaya Logistics, Abdul Jalil Md Tahir, 48, pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetting Hood.
The two men were charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and whipping, and a fine, if found guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Heikal Ismail, who prosecuted, offered bail of RM200,000 in one surety for both the accused and for them to surrender their passports to the court.
Hood's lawyer, Oh Choong Ghee, requested a lower bail of RM50,000 on grounds that the accused was now jobless, while counsel Mohd Yatim Awang, representing Abdul Jalil, requested for bail to be reduced to RM100,000 as his client had a wife, two schooling children and in-laws to support.
Mohd Yatim also informed the court that Abdul Jalil needed the passport as he was leaving for the holy land this Friday to perform the umrah.
He requested the court to allow Abdul Jalil to surrender the passport after his return from the pilgrimage at the end of the year.
Judge Datuk Noradidah Ahmad set bail at RM100,000 in one surety each for both the accused and fixed Jan 6 next year for mention. She also ordered Hood to surrender his passport to the court, while Abdul Jalil was allowed to do so when the case comes up for mention. – Bernama
