Unemployed man jailed 32 months for break-in, no IC

    KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard was sentenced to a total of 32 months and a stroke of the cane by the Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to three counts of breaking into three business premises and for failing to produce his identity card.
    Magistrate Zuraini Abdul Razak sentenced V. Bhagyaraj, 32, to eight months' jail each for the first and second offence, and eight months' jail and a stroke of the cane for the third offence.
    He was also sentenced to another eight months' jail for failing to produce his identity card when requested by the authorities.
    The jail sentences were to be served from the date of his arrest on Oct 12 this year.
    However, Bhagyaraj would only have to serve time for only 24 months as Zuraini ordered the sentences for the third charge and for failing to produce his identity card to be served concurrently, while the sentences for the first and second charge to be served consecutively.
    On the first count, Bhagyaraj was charged with breaking into a restaurant at Level One, Hartamas Shopping Centre here, with intention to steal the goods there between 12.30am and 7am on Sept 12 this year.
    The second charge was for breaking into a restaurant-cum-house belonging to one Anson Ainsley Norman, 42, at No 11 Jalan Sri Hartamas 7, Sri Hartamas here between 1.30 am and 5.45 am on Oct 8, 2014.
    He was also charged, with another person still at large, with breaking into the Groove Club at Jalan 22/70A Sri Hartamas with intention to steal items belonging to one Ganeson Nadaraja, 40, between 7.20 am and 8.20 am on Oct 11, 2014.
    Bhagyaraj was accused with committing the offence on all three counts with another person still at large.
    On the charge of failing to produce his identity card, the offence was committed in front of a Sport Toto shop at Jalan Bangsar here last Oct 12.
    Earlier during mitigation, Bhagyaraj, who was unrepresented, said he was supporting his parents.
