Nine illegal parking attendants fined RM500 each

    GEORGE TOWN: Nine parking attendants were each fined RM500 in default 10 days' jail by the traffic magistrate's court today after pleading guilty to illegally collecting parking fees from motorists.
    Lee Kheng Guan, 59, Lou Soon Lye, 59, Teh Kim Hai, 35, Goh Yew Chin, 51, Goh Beng Chang, 36, Ravi Chandran, 45, Teoh Boay Wa, 57, Tan Boon Huat, 42, and Ong Chen Chung, 55, admitted to committing the offence before magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit.
    Four of them paid the fine shortly after.
    All of them were unrepresented while Inspector Ahmad Padzli Ali was the police prosecuting officer.
    They were all charged under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for unauthorised parking fee collection. They were caught by police during an operation to flush out illegal parking attendants at various places in Air Itam between 10am and 4pm on Dec 9.
