KUALA LUMPUR: Retirees should continue contributing to the community by participating in activities organised by the government or volunteer bodies.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the experience and knowledge gained throughout their service could be shared further with members of the public.
Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, added that retirement from the service does not exactly mean the end of everything.
"Retirement is an opportunity and serves as a step to a new chapter in life," he said in his speech at an event "Jasamu Dikenang" to mark the retirement of Education Ministry officers here today.
Muhyiddin also thanked retirees from the ministry for their efforts to improve quality and productivity in the education service.
"A lot of initiatives under the National Key Results Area for education sector have been fulfilled throughout your service.
"The government has also managed to improve the career path of officers in the ministry comprehensively," he said.
"This is in line with the Malaysia Education Development Plan, which focuses on increasing teachers' ability, teaching quality, school leadership quality and the ability of officers at district and state levels," Muhyiddin added.
