JOHOR BARU: Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Johor Chapter launched its very first district-level MCPF branch movement with the appointment of 13 district heads.
The 13 district heads will soon form their respective committees to initiate activities related to prevention of crime.
Speaking to reporters at the Johor police headquarters, MCPF national vice-chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Ali said, the establishment of the district-level MCPF marks the start of initiating similar set ups in Sates that have yet to set up the district level committees.
MCPF was established in 1993 with the aim to promote public awareness in crime prevention at all times besides getting public participation in crime prevention efforts of the Government and other interested parties.
"The Bandar Selamat programme here will be done together with the people and police to create a safer place to live," he said, adding that everyone needs to play a proactive role in the prevention of crime and also MCPF's move to bring Rakyat's confidence in the police force.
Nowadays, he said, despite the police having succeeded in reducing the crime index, people are of the perception that it could be just an eye wash.
He said public interaction with the police will lead to a better understanding of what's going on in crime rates.
MCPF Johor Chapter chief Datuk Freddie Long Hoo Hin urged more volunteers to joint MCPF as they need to reach out to people on the ground to carry out crime prevention activities at district levels.
Earlier, Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim who officiated the forum on "Bandar Selamat" (Safe Town) said the crime index for the state between January and November had dropped by 12.67% or 2,000 cases as compared with the same period of last year.
