KLANG: Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali assured the people of Selangor that the state's philosophy of infrastructure will be based on its continuous growth which will be distributed equally and in all fairness to all.
He said this could be seen with the RM2.4 million budget allocation approved recently at the Selangor State Assembly for various sectors which will stand to benefit the people in the long run.
He added the 2015 budget showed a new fiscal approach which emphasised the state's infrastructural growth to increase by 47% in comparison with the management expenditure which has been lowered by 53%.
Saying this when delivering his speech at the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's 69th birthday award ceremony at the Istana Alam Shah yesterday, Azmin said that Pakatan Rakyat upholds the principles of the Federal Constitution which includes the position of Islam and ensures the freedom to practice other religions, sovereignty of the Malay language as the national language and as the mother tongue, upholding the Royal Malay institution and the special privileges accorded to them.
This, he added, is also for the Bumiputeras and other ethnic groups which are enshrined in the constitution.
At the investiture ceremony, 27 individuals were conferred the datukship titles, which included two state executive councillors — Iskandar Samad and Dr. Ahmad Yunus Hairi.
Iskandar said he was humbled by being conferred the award and promised to further serve the people with the portfolio entrusted to him, especially on issues related to housing.
Dr Ahmad Yunus, who is also a Sijangkang assemblyman, echoed the same sentiment and hoped people of different races and religions will work together for the betterment and growth of the state.
Meanwhile reporters who confronted Azmin Ali and questioned him on why he was not nominated for the datukship award was brushed aside with a smile.
All that he said was — "I have only been a Mentri Besar for two months … Don't read into it (the matter) too much.
"As I have mentioned earlier in my speech, I need to be fully focused to serve the state because as I have seen in the past months, much more is needed to be done especially in terms of infrastructure.
"The state's growth is also not based on its physical but also the humanity dimension which is vital to balance Selangor's stand," he said.
He also congratulated the two exco members as he deemed their hard work and persistence to represent the rakyat has been rewarded well by the Sultan.
