New scholarships in 2015

THE Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) will be awarding outstanding students at its Malaysia campus with a number of new scholarships next year. These include the Wawasan (Vision) Scholarship Award exclusively for children of school teachers who wish to enroll at MDIS Malaysia for any course.
According to MDIS secretary-general Dr R Theyvendran, "The award is in recognition of the contribution, dedication and sacrifice of those who have often gone beyond the call of duty to teach and imbue the right values in our children." The Wawasan Scholarship Award is MDIS Malaysia's way of assisting these teachers, who despite their passion, commitment and hard work, are often unable to finance the higher education of their own children. Upon selection by a special college panel, a sum of RM31,100 will be given out to each student (every year) under this award.
The other new scholarship to be introduced next year is the Leadership Scholar Award, for students displaying outstanding leadership and camaraderie.
This year MDIS rewarded more than 70 students under its Merit Achievement Award, which granted students a RM1,000 rebate (maximum RM10,000) on their course fee for every "A" grade they achieved in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination. The Merit awards will be extended to deserving students in 2015.
Besides scholarships, MDIS Malaysia also offers special services in assisting its graduating students by depositing their resume in a central job database managed by MDIS in Singapore.
Through this service, students can benefit from MDIS' Career Assistance Unit (CAU) based at its Singapore campus, which provides value-added career advice and placement services to qualified students. CAU will help arrange internships and attachment training programmes to enable students gain valuable exposure in industrial and commercial environments. This special job placement service marks the first major commitment by a Singapore education group in Iskandar Malaysia, informed Theyvendran.
MDIS Malaysia is also building a RM350 million permanent campus in EduCity, Nusajaya in Johor. The 30-acre campus will be developed in three phases and is slated for completion in 2023.
"We will offer state-of-the-art educational training facilities as well as entertainment and recreational facilities. We will ensure all MDIS students have access to a holistic education and experience," said Theyvendran.
