Kuala Lumpur: With Christmas around the corner, Berjaya Corporation Berhad's ("BCorp") senior management and staff last Thursday brought cheer to the 53 abandoned and underprivileged senior citizens of Rumah Jagaan dan Rawatan Orang Tua Al-Ikhlas in Puchong, Selangor
The inmates with varying degrees of ailments and difficulties were delighted when the team came a-calling with goodie bags and were treated to a healthy Kenny Roger's Roasters lunch.
The management and staff also interacted with the elderly folks and gave them an opportunity to pour their problems to lighten their hearts and minds.
The Home was established in 2004 by a former nurse in Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Puan Muji Sulaiman, who felt sympathy for the senior citizens who were abandoned by their families in the hospital. The Home has since cared for over 600 homeless senior citizens.
"We are happy to bring cheer to the elderly folks of Rumah Jagaan dan Rawatan Orang Tua Al-Ikhlas. Welfare home visits has been one of Berjaya's corporate social responsibility ("CSR") initiatives and in keeping up to this tradition, the management and staff continue to visit various old folk's and children welfare homes on a quarterly basis," said Judy Tan, Senior General Manager of Corporate Communications.
Other than welfare home visits, Berjaya adopts a multi-faceted approach in its corporate social responsibility initiatives to bring meaningful change to the communities in need.
Among the initiatives that Berjaya supports are educational programmes for underprivileged children and youths, community outreach programmes for the poor and providing aid to health-related causes, to name a few.
