KUALA LUMPUR: A 314-page coffee table book "PusakaAkar" was launched today, giving Malaysians an opportunity to understand the importance of the natural environment and rainforests.
The book, the brainchild of Tun Jeanne Abdullah, the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, was launched jointly by them at Bait Badawi, the official residence of the couple.
The launch which comes five years following the establishment of Landskap Malaysia touches on various topics ranging from cultivating love and care towards landscape, environment and forest heritage to educating people on how to care for them.
Abdullah said "PusakaAkar" was accomplished through the hardwork put in by his wife who is passionate about her work and the need to preserve nature.
The book, he said, showcases pictorial wonders of Malaysia's forests with special emphasis on the work, thoughts and mission taking place to conserve and preserve the rainforest.
"When I was little, I was inspired with nature, the shapes and colours of the leaves. It has never left me, I felt that I must do something to keep our forest and environment alive," said Jeanne.
"I would not have made it without my husband's help and also from the articles contributed by among others James Kingham and Datuk Sam Manan," she added.

The contents of the book are contributed by corporate personalities, conservationists and academicians that contain creative photography and quotes on nature, commentaries and articles.
"Pusaka Akar" hopes to instill greater appreciation for our natural environment and advocate the need to preserve our Malaysian rainforests as well as to create greater public awareness on the urgency to conserve and preserve our unique heritage for future generations.
The book is available at Landskap Malaysia website - http://www.landskapmalaysia.org/
