KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 3,000 security personnel will be stationed at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium to ensure security during the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup second final match between Malaysia and Thailand on Saturday.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Security Committee deputy chairman Datuk Osman Salleh said the personnel comprised among others, traffic policemen, 300 Rela members and FAM's own security personnel.

He said although the number was seen as low compared to the 90,000 spectators expected, it was adequate to ensure the smoothness of the match.

"We will ensure security will be more effective although the number of personnel involved is less than during the semi-final which took place at the Shah Alam Stadium."

"As long as our supporters are more orderly, we can use less personnel," he told reporters after chairing an FAM Security Committee meeting at Bukit Jalil Stadium here today.

Osman said to ensure no banned item found its way into the stadium, tight checks would be conducted in stages, namely at the entrance gate and after the entrance gate.

He said, to ensure smoothness and security, local spectators and Thai supporters were separated into certain gates, namely, Thai supporters were directed to enter via the Blue gate while locals would use the Red, Green and Yellow gates from 4pm, on the day of the match.

In fact, he said, the seats of local and Thai supporters would be separated to ensure no untoward incident and urged supporters not to bring banned items.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Halmi Harun said PSM, with the cooperation of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall would ensure the route to the main gate, around C parking and along the route in front of the Bukit Jalil Sport School, were vacated. – Bernama
