19 flood victims in Kelantan yet to go home

    KOTA BARU: Nineteen flood victims, seven adults and 12 children from four families, who are sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Raja, Pasir Puteh here, have yet to go home, according the Kelantan's government's floods portal.

    The families were evacuated to the school after their homes in Kampung Tok Kundur, Bukit Awang, Pasir Puteh became inundated when Sungai Petai overflowed its banks following continuous heavy rain the past two days.

    The portal, infobanjir.water.gov.my, also stated that the water levels of Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Jenob in Tanah Merah as well as Sungai Pergau in Air Bol, Jeli had breached the alert level.

    In Terengganu, the National Security Council's state portal said all flood victims in Hulu Terengganu had been allowed to return home while Kemaman which was the worst hit district in the second wave of floods in the state saw a drop of flood victims from 519 people in the afternoon to 422 people tonight.

    The situation also has not changed in Marang with 643 people from 163 families sheltered at two flood relief centres while in Setiu only 36 people remain at three relief centres as compared to 416 people in the afternoon.

    In Besut, 16 people from three families still remain at one shelter.
    The water levels of Sungai Setiu at Permaisuri and Langkap and Sungai Marang at Pengkalan Berangan were reported to be at the warning level.

    Meanwhile, in Kemaman, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman asked the Drainage and Irrigation Department to submit a comprehensive report on the drainage and irrigation system in the state by January or February in view of recurring floods.

    He told this to reporters after handing over aid to flood victims sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kemasik, Kemaman.

    Kemaman DID engineer, Abdul Razak Ahmad, said the said the floods in Kemaman were due to unusually heavy rainfall, reaching more than 200mm in several catchment areas in the district. – Bernama
