MALACCA: More than 70% of snatch theft cases reported nationwide involved drug addicts.

Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said most of the addicts were unemployed and resorted to snatch theft to buy drugs.

"So, the easiest way is by committing snatch theft, targeting mostly women," he told reporters after opening the joint programme to combat street crimes organised by MCPF and the police at a shopping complex, here, today.

Bukit Aman statistics show that snatch theft cases recorded an increase of 347 cases from Jan to Oct or 2,098 cases compared to 1,751 cases during the corresponding period last year.

Lee said crime involving the Y generation, or the young, is also rising and worrying. – Bernama
