East-coast floods worsen

KOTA BARU: The flood situation in Kelantan worsened today afternoon with the number of evacuees increasing from 3,811 in the morning to 4,663.
According to the state government's portal, all victims were now housed at 63 relief centres opened in 10 districts – Jeli, Kota Baru, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Gua Musang, Tumpat and Bachok.
Gua Musang, Tumpat and Bachok were the latest districts to be hit by floods.
In Kota Baru, 319 victims are in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tiong, SK Sri Keterah and SK Mulong. In Kuala Krai, 820 have been evacuated to seven relief centres, among them SK Telekong, SMK Keroh, SK Sungai Embak and SM Teknik Kuala Krai. In Pasir Puteh, 522 are at SK Wakaf Raja, SK Changgai and SMK Kamil, while 39 are at Sungai Mas Madrasah, SK Pangkal Meleret, SJKC Pei Hwa and SK Hamzah 1.
In Jeli, 696 victims have been moved to SMK Ayer Lanas, SK Jeli 1, SK Legeh, SK Kalai, SK Kuala Balah and Gemang mosque.
In Pasir Mas, 791 are at 11 relief centres, among them are Chasi mosque, SK Tok Uban and SMK Kangkung, while in Tanah Merah 1,291 are at 26 relief centres including SK Kulim, Kampung Renat Madrasah and Bendang Besar Madrasah.
In Bachok, 60 victims are being placed at SK Pak Badol while in Gua Musang, 82 are at the Kesedar Lebir Land Development Scheme office, while in Tumpat, 43 have been moved to SK Sebakat.
As of noon today, the water levels of six rivers were at the danger point.
Sungai Golok at Jenob, Tanah Merah recorded a reading of 23.65m (danger level 23.50m) while in Rantau Panjang, the water level of the same river was at 10.82m, which was above the danger level of nine metres.
The water level of Sungai Kelantan at Tambatan Diraja, Kota Baru, has reached 5.33m; at Tangga Krai, Kuala Krai (26.66m); and at Jambatan Guillemard, Tanah Merah (17.94m); all above danger levels. The water level of Sungai Lebir at Gua Musang was at 36.30m, above the danger level of 35m.
Meanwhile in TERENGGANU, the flood situation has also worsened with the number of evacuees rising to 4,023 today afternoon from 1,834 in the morning.
According to the Terengganu National Security Council (MKN) portal, Hulu Terengganu has the highest number of evacuees with 1,540 as at noon, compared with 209 in the morning. Besut, Dungun, Kemaman and Setiu recorded an increase in number of evacuees. Kemaman district recorded the second highest number with 957 followed by Besut (814), Dungun (478), Setiu (216) and Kuala Terengganu (18) involving 1,118 families.
In PAHANG, Kuantan district police chief, ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said with the increased number of flood victims from 340 (82 families) from 123 (32 families), a fourth relief centre was opened at SMK Gudang Rasau last night to house three families from Kampung Gudang Rasau. – Bernama
