Local cartoon, caricature enthusiasts gather to pay tribute to M'sian cartoonist

    PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Cartoon Parade (MCP) and The Summit USJ gathered local cartoon, animation, and caricature enthusiasts to participate and pay tribute to Malaysia's 1950's cartoonist.
    MCP founder Mazlan Abdullah, the organiser of the event said the event was aimed to involve all cartoonist, animator and caricaturist from various prints and electronic publications to further highlight the significance in art to connect to their audience.
    "We invited more than 100 cartoonists to participate in this event with their animation and cartoon drawings," he said.
    "In conjunction of Datuk Lat's 50th anniversary as an artist, I would like to show appreciation to all mentors in the cartoon, animation and caricature industry who have worked hard with their efforts to bring their ideas to life," he added.
    He also pointed out that Datuk Lat will receive an award called "MOMENTO achievement of 50 years as a cartoonist".
    The event saw a colouring contest for children aged between six to 12 years old, autograph sessions with cartoonists and animation movies.
    Summit USJ and Popular Bookstore, the co-organisers sponsored various prizes to the colouring contest winners.
    Also present were, Creative Enterprise (Majalah GILA-GILA), MOY Publications Sdn Bhd (Majalah UJANG & APO), Persatuan Animasi Malaysia (ANIMAS), Persatuan Penggiat Komik Malaysia (PEKOMIK), SEAD Studios (Animasi The Amazing AWANG KENIT), Persatuan Kartunis Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan (PEKARTUN), Kelab Kartun Malaysia (KKM) and Gabungan Industri Kandungan Kreatif (Creative Content Industry Guild Malaysia - CCIG)
    Meanwhile, Datuk Lat will launch an award ceremony for cartoonists in Malaysia in 2015.
