PR reduces number of abandoned projects in Selangor

SUBANG: Pakatan Rakyat has managed to greatly reduce the number of abandoned projects in Selangor.
Revealing this to reporters, Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamad Azmin Ali said that when Pakatan Rakyat become the state government in 2008, they inherited 187 abandoned projects from Barisan National (BN) that included both housing and commercial buildings.
"From 2008 until now, we have solved more than 100 over abandoned projects and one major problem we discovered in most cases were that project developers were given the permission by the BN government to precede with the project design and planning without making any premium payment in advance.
"This creates more problems for us when we try to change project ownership once a project is completed because developers either refuse to make the outstanding premium payment or they have gone bankrupt," he added during a press conference earlier today.
Citing the Bukit Botak housing project in Selayang that involved more than 1,600 owners as an example, the state government has to bear the subsidy cost of RM60 million in order to resolve the problem and return the property ownership to the rightful owners.
Hence, to prevent the increase of abandoned projects in the state and the delay of property titles, Azmin said the state government has decided not to allow any developer or landowner to begin a project without making the full premium payment to the state government.
Prior to the press conference, Azmin handed 45 people their titles to the Lestari Perdana business building and the 5A notices to 83 Taman Subang Permai's light industry owners, where both projects were among the many abandoned projects.
On a separate note, asked on why PR has yet to properly voice their stand on the implementation of Hudud, Azmin said the coalition's stand had always been clear.
"However, all these will be discussed collectively with Pakatan Rakyat component parties during the coalition presidential council meeting in January," he added.
