HULU TERENGGANU: A new bridge will be constructed to replace the original Kuala Kejir-Tanggol bridge which was deemed unsafe for use due to erosion and soil deposits on Dec 5 last year.
Terengganu Public Works Department (JKR) director Datuk Shafii Mohamad said the new bridge spanning 100m will cost RM36m.
Its construction is expected to be completed in one and a half years.
"Currently, the appointed contractor has gone to the site on Dec 14 and the Kuala Kejir-Tanggol route is currently closed off.
"The tactical bridge which replaced the original bridge is no longer safe for use after signs of cracks and erosion under the structure," he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a visit to the bridge here today. Also present was Hulu Terengganu JKR engineer Mohd Danny Chin.
"Jalan Kuala Kejir-Tanggol will be closed for two weeks while waiting for another temporary bridge, which is currently 80% completed," he said. – Bernama
