KUALA LUMPUR: The dream of a young storekeeper to look handsome was shattered following a botched plastic surgery on his face by a private clinic here.
Chai Wai Chuan, 20, from Ampang said his nightmare started on Nov 16 when he went to the clinic around noon to find out about rhinoplasty surgical details which he found from a flyer.
Speaking to reporters at Wisma MCA yesterday, he said, the "aesthetic consultant" in the course of conversation recommended that he do a double eyelid surgery, epicanthoplasty and nostrils refinement to look good.
Chai opted for four types of surgeries for a fee of RM18,000 and signed a document which was in English before he was brought in to the surgery room to see a doctor Chan who performed all the surgeries on the same day around 1pm.
After having endured pain after the surgery for 10 days, Chai found that his nasal bridge was deviated.
"I went back to the clinic and the doctor adjusted his nasal with his hand," said Chai, adding that his nostrils remained imbalanced and in pain.
When told of his dissatisfaction with the result, he claimed, the doctor said that he cannot be held responsible for any consequences as he (Chai) had signed the agreement.
Chai then turned to MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong for help.
Chong said said this is the fourth case he received of such botched surgeries involving private clinics who claimed they have the necessary expertise.
Chong urged the health ministry and related agencies to monitor these clinics and take appropriate action before more people fall victim to botched surgeries.
