ALOR SETAR: An army personnel was seen grinding an object similar to a mortar behind his house in Gurun, Kedah, said Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Mohd Nashir Ya.
Commenting on the explosion that killed a man and two children in Taman Ria Mesra, Gurun on Wednesday, Mohd Nashir added that several banned firecrackers were discovered behind the suspect's house.
According to Mohd Nashir, several dented half cut splinters of explosive ordnance were recovered from the house that exploded yesterday. He also said some of the objects had marks which indicated it's usage by the Malaysian Security Forces.
"Based on the size of the seat of explosion that was found on the scene, investigations indicated that the powerful blast of explosion was not from the explosion of gas cylinders," Mohd Nashir said in a press statement today.
He also said the seat of explosion measuring one meter in radius was located behind the house of the army personnel and the impact of the explosion had damaged more than 40 houses in the area.
Mohd Nashir said the police will focus on the army personnel who was seen by an eye witness grinding the bomb and how the explosive ordnance was obtained.
