Najib's visit flood victims at Parit school
PARIT: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's visit today to the flood relief centre at SMK Sultan Muzafar Shah 1, here, and his concern over the flood victims' plight, somewhat managed to ease their sadness and worry.
The prime minister, accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, was welcomed by several flood evacuees who had waited early at the school canteen for his arrival and appeared excited to meet him.
Najib could see what was being served for lunch for the flood evacuees before entering the school hall to meet more of them.
The prime minister spent about 20 minutes talking to the flood victims and listening to their concerns.
Meanwhile, some of them eagerly took the opportunity to take photographs with the nation's number one leader.
The relief centre houses 658 flood victims from 168 families.
Earlier, Najib visited flood victims at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) training centre in Sungai Galah and Mara Junior Science College (MRSM), Pasir Salak.
Akmanita Jaafar, 40, from Kampung Tua Batu 16, described the prime minister as a leader who was sensitive to the plight of the people, much so to flood victims'.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) ... I am very grateful that PM (prime minister) was willing to visit us, asking how we were doing here," said the housewife.
Najib also enquired about the condition of her father, Jaafar Imam Samad, 85, who is ill after a stroke and who was also evacuated to the school hall.
Another flood evacuee, Sharifah Ibrahim, 57, said she felt fortunate with Najib's visit and listening to their worries which helped lessen their feelings of uneasiness.
"Najib had asked about the condition of my house and whether the food supply (at the relief centre) was enough.
"I told him that my house was badly damaged, that everything was adequate here and that the relief workers were very good to us," she said.
Rosminishah Mohd ariffin, 33, from Kampung Lambor Kanan, said they were sad over what happened (flood), but were nevertheless delighted with the prime minister's visit, describing it as a panacea for their sadness.
