AirAsia Crash: SAR team finds another two large objects

KUALA LUMPUR: The team involved in the search and rescue of the AirAsia Indonesia crash has found two large objects believed to be parts of the Airbus A320-200 aircraft that went down in the Java Sea in Indonesia, bringing to four the number of large objects detected so far.
The Indonesian national search and rescue agency, Basarnas, said today the objects, measuring 18 x 5.4 x 2.2 metres and 12.4 x 0.6 x 0.5 metres, were found on the seabed at 1.30 pm and 2.24 pm Indonesian time (2.30 pm and 3.24 pm Malaysian time) yesterday.
It said in a statement that the two objects were found near where the other two objects were found.
"A total of four objects have been detected on the seabed. These objects are within the priority search zone determined over the past two days by Basarnas," it said.
Basarnas said efforts to locate the black box of Flight QZ8501, which crashed while flying 162 passengers and crew from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore on Dec 28, had yet to yield results.
As of yesterday, Basarnas and the joint SAR team had deployed 14 air assets and 26 naval assets to the search area, close to Pangkalan Bun in central Kalimantan.
So far, 30 bodies have been recovered. – Bernama
