KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur criminal investigations department (CID) chief SAC Gan Kong Meng retired from the police force today after 39 years of service.
In a simple ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters, Gan handed over his duties to his deputy, Abdul Razak Abdul Ghafur, who will be acting state CID chief until a new officer takes over.
In his speech, Gan expressed gratitude to his colleagues and thanked them for their support and cooperation in the 10 months he served as state CID head.
"I have no words to describe the guidance rendered to me by my superiors and others in the police force," said Gan.
The ceremony was witnessed by Kuala Lumpur police chief, senior DCP Datuk Tajudin Md Isa.
Abdul Razak, 57, told reporters that he will continue clamping down on criminal activities in the city.
"We will focus on crime prevention, especially in the areas of gambling and prostitution. I accept my new appointment with an open heart and hope the community will enhance cooperation with the police to reduce crime rates besides becoming the 'eyes and ears' to channel information to the authorities on criminal activities."
