Sarawak's Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub dies at 87

KUCHING: Former Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Ya'kub died at the Normah Medical Centre here at around 9.30pm today.
He was 87.
Sarawak Customs and Protocol Division head Datuk Khir Busrah, when met at the medical centre, said Abdul Rahman's body would be brought to Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya here at 10.30am tomorrow.
He said dignitaries, leaders and the masses could pay their last respects to him from 10.30am till the Zohor (midday) prayers. After the funeral prayers, he said, the body would be taken to the Semariang Muslim Cemetery for burial.
Khir advised all those who wished to come to be dressed appopriately, with Muslims wearing black national dresses and non-Muslim women to wearg baju kurung or loose-fitting kebayas.
"On behalf of the state government I extend my condolences to all family members of Tun," he said.
Abdul Rahman was reported to be in poor health the last few months. He leaves behind a wife and eight daughters.
One of his daughters, Datuk Norah, is the assemblyman for Tanjung Manis while another daughter, Khadijah, is the daughter-in-law of the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who was Malaysia's second prime minister and the father of current prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Abdul Rahman's first wife Toh Puan Normah died in 1983. – Bernama
