KUALA KRAI: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry spent RM800,000 to buy 20 H2O R1 filtration tanks to meet water needs of flood victims in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai, said its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said the tanks, which could fiter 18 litres of water in a minute and process up to two million litres before the filter needed to be changed, were being used in 17 villages in the two flood-ravaged districts.
"The tanks costing RM40,000 each can store up to 2,000 litres of water at any one time. They are a big help for flood victims who before the tanks were installed were having a tough time getting clean water supply for their daily needs.

"We are aware the muddy river waters are not easy to filter, hence the need for this filtration system. I also urge the related government agencies to identify suitable water sources to be filtered," he said.

Mohd Shafie was speaking to reporters after handing out school aid for flood victims in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai at Kampung Karangan here today.

Meanwhile, South Kelantan Development Authority general manager Datuk Mohd Arshad Ismail Mohd Shafie, who was also present, said leave for its 550 staff has been frozen and they have been asked to help the flood victims in Kelantan. – Bernama
