Mum killed for asking son to take medication

    KUALA LUMPUR : A 76-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death with a hammer allegedly by her mentally ill son at their house in Taman Cheras Awana early today.
    It is learnt that the 36-year-old suspect had allegedly attacked his mother after she tried to have him take his medication said to be for his psychiatric ailment.
    When the suspect regained his composure after his fit of insanity, he called the police at about 10am.
    When Kajang police went over, they found the lifeless body of the victim next to a bathroom at the back of the single-storey terrace house on Jalan Awana 19.
    Police said she sustained serious injuries to her head caused by a blunt object and a hammer believed to be the murder weapon was found near her body.
    The suspect who is unemployed and was found in blood-soaked clothes was then arrested by police and taken away for investigations.
    Neighbours told police that they did not hear a commotion at the house prior to the recovery of the woman's body.
    Investigators learnt that the suspect had a history of psychiatric illness following injuries he suffered in an accident a decade ago and was receiving treatment for his condition at a hospital.
    Police also learnt that the victim lived with a daughter at a house nearby while her son stayed with his father and a brother.
    The victim would come over daily to her husband's house to care for the suspect.
    Kajang police chief ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab was not available for comment but sources said the case which is classified as murder is believed to be solved with the arrest of the suspect.
