RM190m Jernih Dam scheduled to be completed by 2018

    MALACCA: The RM190-million Jernih dam located in Taboh Naning, Alor Gajah near here is expected to be completed by 2018, said Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
    He said this fourth dam in Malacca and would be built on a 160ha site and can accommodate 32 billion litres of water at full capacity.
    The other dams are the Durian Tunggal Dam here, Asahan and Jus dams in Jasin.
    He said the Jernih dam, which will use green technology for its operating system, is capable of meeting the water needs in Malacca until 2030.
    "Currently Malacca needs 200 million litres of treated water for a population of about 850,000.
    In 2020 we expect to achieve a population of 1 million which needs more supplies of treated water.
    "Now we are in the process of appointing consultants to facilitate communication with landowners for the project," he told a press conference after chairing the state exco meeting here today.
    Besides the construction of the dam, the state government is also planning to sign a water supply agreement with Negri Sembilan as another way to increase water supply for the people of Malacca. – Bernama
