IPOH: DAP put up a "Concubine Lane" signboard popularly known as Lorong Panglima in Old Town here which had a long history of such activities, following the public's and tourists' queries as to where the area is located.
The signboard was put up at the entrance of the lane, where the shop lots are now occupied by food stalls and other sales outlets.
Ipoh's famous White Coffee also originated from the same area.
Concubine Lane was famous in the old days when Ipoh was a rich city built on tin, where Chinese miners kept their concubines and mistresses in two double storey houses in a narrow lane fronting each other. It also doubled up as opium and gambling dens.
The buildings were constructed in 1908.
Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said: "The lane is a landmark which could attract tourists.
"It is more than 100 years old but there was no clear signboard to identify the location ... and we have been receiving inquiries about it."
Speaking to reporters after officiating the signboard, Nga who is also Kepayang assemblyman, asked Ipoh City Council to open a walkway in the area every Sunday.
"People will be able to walk freely and encourage more people to visit the area to enjoy the culinary delights and other attractions," he added
