Suspect awaiting trial dies in hospital

    GEORGE TOWN: A 63-year-old African under remand for a drugs hearing died at Penang Hospital today due to heart complications.
    Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the deceased, Phil Pott Fred, died at about 5.15am after being admitted on Saturday due to ulcers on his right leg.
    He said the doctor-in-charge informed a prison warden in charge of the prisoner of the death.
    "No external injuries were found on his body, " he told media in a brief text message.
    Mior said initial investigations revealed the man was remanded under the Dangerous Drugs Act in connection with a case in Southwest district with the next hearing set for Feb 9.
