Fishmonger cheats death

    BAYAN BARU: A 49-year-old fishmonger cheated death after one of the unidentified assailants fired a shot on him at a parking compound of a mosque today.
    Southwest district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin confirmed the incident and said the man managed to escape from being shot at about 2.30pm.
    He said the incident happened when the fishmonger was walking from the market to the parking area to take his car located about 100m away.
    He said two men on a motorcycle wearing full-faced helmets came and one of the suspects screamed at the victim before whipping out a black revolver.
    Fortunately, the victim who was shocked, quickly threw himself to the ground as he saw the suspects fleeing from the scene after firing a shot.
    "Three eyewitnesses were at the scene during incident," he told the media in a brief text message.
    Initial investigations revealed the victim was formerly a part-time debt collector while the suspects were believed to be loan sharks.
    Lai also said the victim had previously lodged a police report in Oct last year after being threatened.
    The case is being classified as attempted murder.
