KOTA BARU: The Kuala Krai district today recorded the lowest temperature in the country after the Cameron Highlands, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
It reported on its website, www.met.gov.my, that Kuala Krai had the lowest temperature of 19.4°C. The maximum temperature for the day was 30.5°C.
Cameron Highlands today recorded a minimum temperature of 12.5°C and a maximum temperature of 22.8°C, according to the website.
The department, in a statement, did not rule out the possibility of a repeat of the weather phenomenon of last year.
"The cold air from the Himalayas and Siberia, during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere, was the main factor for the extreme cold weather in the north and east coast of the peninsula in January last year.
"The presence of cold air causes less cloud formation, leading to cooler temperatures at night and resulting in a low temperature of 17.2°C as happened last year in Kuala Krai," it said.
The statement said this global phenomenon was difficult to forecast due to various other contributory factors.
The people can obtain the latest information on the weather via the hotline 1-300-22-1638, website at www.met.gov.my and the MetMalaysia page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/malaysiamet or the Twitter page at https://twitter.com/malaysiamet. – Bernama
