Ancient tunnel found on Bukit Nanas

KUALA LUMPUR: Traces of an ancient tunnel dating back to the Battle of Klang between Raja Mahadi and Tengku Kudin over tax disputes about 147 years ago was unearthed during slope reparation works on Bukit Nanas here.
Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said local authorities have agreed to preserve the site as a tourist attraction.
"The site has been studied by the Malaysia History Association, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur branch.
"Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Peninsula Malaysia Forestry Department will preserve the site for tourists to visit," Tengku Adnan said when officiating the completion ceremony of Bukit Nanas slope reparation works.
The tunnel may have been used by warriors to go 'back and forth' from Klang and Bukit Nanas or to ferry supplies.
He said every effort is being taken by the government to preserve Bukit Nanas in keeping with Malaysia's efforts to protects its natural environment and historic sites.
Tengku Adnan also proposed to KL mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib to construct a cable car system o tourists can enjoy a bird's eye view of Bukit Nanas.
Landslides occurred in four locations surrounding Bukit Nanas, a reserve forest zone, on May 7, 2013, with two on Jalan Ampang and two on Jalan Bukit Nanas.
The landslide on Jalan Ampang damaged a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation, carpark, a waterfall, and a section of the road's reserve, while the roads, drainage, and a section of the retention wall on Jalan Bukit Nanas were damaged.
Repair works were undertaken by DBKL, which appointed Ikram Sdn Bhd at a cost of RM18 million to start work on Feb 27, 2014 and was expected to be completed by Feb 26, 2015.
However, Ikram managed to finish the work well ahead of schedule on Jan 7.
