Man claims trial to abusing daughter

BUTTERWORTH: A father of a six-year-old-girl today claimed trial after he was charged with physically and emotionally abusing her.
Mohd Shaikful Adli Mohd Afendi, 33, was charged in the magistrate's court with committing the offence about 7.23pm at Lorong Sungai Dua Utama 22, Taman Sungai Dua Utama on Jan 15.
The offence comes under the Child Act 2001 and those convicted are liable for a maximum 10-year prison sentence or a maximum RM2,000 fine or both.
DPP Khairul Fairuz Rahman had opposed bail to be granted to the accused as the case was serious and involved a child but defence counsel Saiful Ambar Abdullah however sought for bail to be granted.
Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahab set bail at RM8,000 with one surety on condition the accused did not interfere with the child. He then fixed Feb 25 for mention.
