MOH raises RM321,500 for disaster fund

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry's disaster fund of RM321,500 which it managed to raise so far will be used to assist some 6,000 health personnel who were affected by the floods.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, who launched the fund here today, said the total damages to the homes of these personnel amounted to RM70 million.
They included damages to electrical goods, furniture and vehicles.
He said the fund-raising effort began last month and would continue.
Subramaniam also praised the efforts of the medical staffs who saved the equipment needed in clinics and hospitals despite facing the flood waters.
He said the ministry needed about RM380 million to rebuild 15 clinics and repair 100 hospitals and clinics.
The cost, which includes purchasing medical equipment damaged in the floods, has been submitted to the National Security Council to be included in the budget, he added.
The floods affected Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
