KUALA LUMPUR: Police are in a huff over a video recording that showed a popular local singer, held in Taman Keramat here for drug abuse on Tuesday, being forced to sing while under detention.
The 84-second video clip, believed to be taken by a policeman at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters, showed lead vocalist Zamani Ibrahim of the band Slam in handcuffs singing his popular song Gerimis Mengundang .
The video that was uploaded on YouTube today had garnered about 10,000 hits at press time.
According to people who have viewed the clipping, the singer who was handcuffed to another detainee and was seated on a floor appeared to have been pressured to sing the song.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was not amused by the antics of the person who took the video when the brief jail house talent time session came to his attention.
"We will investigate those who shot this video while Zamani was handcuffed and stern action will be taken," he said on Twitter.
The 43-year-old singer who was detained by anti-narcotics police in a raid at a house, had tested positive for heroin abuse.
Police also found a small amount of the drug in a room and held a 33-year-old woman who was with him during the raid.
Meanwhile, Selangor police chief senior DCP Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said today that police had identified the policeman who shot the video.
He said investigators are identifying the other police personnel involved in distributing the video clip.
"A thorough investigation is being carried out. No personnel will be spared," he said, adding that Selangor police will try to wrap up the investigation soon and send its findings to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act under which a person commits an offence if he or she posts any content that is either indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive in character with the intention to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person.
An individual charged under this section faces a fine of not more than RM50,000 or jail of not more than one year, or both upon conviction.
