SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) questioned if the protesters at the Datum Jelatek luxury condominium site in Taman Keramat yesterday were really locals.
Speaking to reporters after the monthly assembly of state government departments at the state secretariat here, Azmin tried to dismiss repeated questions over the issue.
On Jan 25, some 100 locals gathered at the condominium site to protest the project as they feared the development would bring other races into the Malay-majority area.
Azmin said he was unsure if the protesters consisted of locals or outsiders.
"Who are they?" Azmin questioned, to which a reporter replied that the protesters were residents of Kampung Keramat.
"Are you sure they are locals and reside there? Can you confirm that? Other than Salleh (Datum Jelatek action committee chairman Salleh Samad), who were present at the demonstration?" he asked.
Azmin said the state government has always taken opinions and suggestions submitted by residents affected by development projects into consideration.
"The Selangor State Development Corporarion (PKNS) will come out with a detailed report over the incident," he said.
"We will go through the details of the protest as the state government policy allows for any disagreement before the start of any project.
"The development of Datum Jelatek was not recently suggested. It has dragged for a long time and hearing sessions have been repeatedly conducted," he added.
