PETALING JAYA: Some 1,500 people from all walks of life came together to take part in the inaugural Sports Toto-FTKLAA Cross Country 2015 last Sunday.
Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Sports Toto) was the title sponsor of the 30th annual cross country run held in collaboration with the Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) and Kuala Lumpur City Council.
The event held at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur was divided into 9 categories for men senior and junior veteran (10.7km); women senior, men senior veteran, women veteran, men junior and women junior (6.7km); as well as kids run for boys and girls aged between 9 and 12 years old (3km).
The run was flagged off by Sports Toto general manager (Finance & Admin) Tung Kai Shek.
Sports Toto communications manager Giam Say Khoon said: "We are happy to see a positive response from the runners who came not just from the Klang Valley but all the way from Negri Sembilan despite a short notice of just a month for registration."
Being the first running event as a title sponsor, he hoped more runners will come forward to participate in the event next year.
"The cross country run is more challenging and interesting than the ordinary running events as it requires the runners to go off-road," said Giam.
Cash prizes totalling RM11,950.00 were given to the top 5 finishers in each category and 22-year-old Thevan Rajoo from Negri Sembilan, the fastest runner for men senior (18 years old and above) category, had spent only 39 minutes and 11 seconds to complete the 10.7km-course.
Sports Toto thanked Seiko for being the official timer, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Jollibean, Sports Toto Fitness Centre, the Sun newspaper, and 100Plus which contributed as supporting partners by setting up game and drink booths as well as quiz and lucky draws to jazz up the event.
In promoting a healthy lifestyle and national sports development, Sports Toto has been an active sponsor and supporting partner of many sporting events which include the KL-Maran Big Walk, Kuala Lumpur Run, Kenny Rogers Chicken Run, Seremban Half Marathon, MBPJ Squash Open Championship, Penang Bridge International Marathon and Run for Your Lives Malaysia.
