Jail and cane for fugitives who escaped from police custody

BUTTERWORTH: Two fugitives who were recently caught after evading capture for two years were today sentenced to eight years in prison and two strokes of the cane each after pleading guilty to various offences.
Hamzani Harun, 38, and Hissham Abdul Rahman, 40, pleaded guilty in the magistrate's court to a charge of escaping from police custody on Jan 7, 2013, at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) Bagan Ajam exit about 9.45am.
Both, however, claimed trial to four charges of causing injuries to four civil servants namely Mohd Azizan Ahmad, TK Mahendren, Muhammad Sharifuddin Ali and Mohd Nazzwuan Md Zain at the same time and place.
Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahab sentenced both to 20 months in prison and ordered their sentence to begin after both served a six-year prison sentence imposed on them by the Sessions Court earlier that morning.
He fixed March 26 for trial for the charges of causing injuries.
Muhammad Firdaus sentenced them to four months jail after both pleaded guilty to possessing house-breaking tools at a video game shop at Tasek Gelugor about 5.20am on July 6, 2012, and ordered the term to run consecutively.
They also pleaded guilty to a charge of injecting morphine into their bodies at the North Seberang Perai district police headquarters about 5.15am on Jan 1, 2015, and Muhammad Firdaus fixed March 26 for sentencing p
ending the test results.
During their Sessions Court appearance, both pleaded guilty to robbing one Tan Su Ee of 14 Dell branded computers and RM1,000 cash on July 6, 2012, about 5.20am at a video game shop at Tasek Gelugor.
Sessions Court Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi sentenced them both to six years in prison and two strokes each.
DPP Mohd Khairul Fairuz Rahman appeared for the prosecution while the two were not represented.
