KUALA LUMPUR: Employers who wish to hire maids, especially from Indonesia, must ensure they were dealing with maid agencies that are registered with the Human Resource Ministry and the Immigration Department.
Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said if employers fail to engage the services of registered agencies, they may end up paying more than the amount set by the government.
"I wish to clarify that the amount for employing a maid from a registered agent has been set at RM7,800 by the Malaysian and Indonesian authorities. For employers who have become victims of unscrupulous agents, they can file a claim at the Consumers Tribunal," he said in a statement here today.
He said local dailies had reported that employers had complained that employing Indonesian maids incur a high cost of between RM14,000 to RM15,000.
Jaem said employers can obtain a list of registered agents through the ministry's website http://jtksm.mohr.gov.my.
"There are 393 agents registered with the ministry," he said.
He said to lodge a complaint regarding maids, employers can contact the nearest Labour office or call 03-88865000; 03-80008000. – Bernama
