TUMPAT: A total of 150 volunteers from various agencies came together today, in a gotong royong to build temporary jetties for the residents of Kampung Pulau Beluru and Teluk Rejuna here.
Chief Coordinator of Mission 3 Scouts Association of Malaysia, Mohd Nazlee Mohd Baki said volunteers from the Prime Minister's Department (JPM), members of Malaysia Scout and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) worked tirelessly to complete the construction of the jetties in both the villages at a cost of RM500.
"Both the villages are connected by a steel bridge, but it collapsed when the floods hit the state last December.
"The residents took the initiative to build a 'floating raft' to commute to and fro, but there was no specific landing site, so we constructed the jetties to facilitate their travel," he told reporters when met at the gotong royong.
He said they only spent a total of RM1,000 to build both jetties as a temporary measure before a new bridge was built. – Bernama
