PETALING JAYA: The 2nd International Conference of the Global Movement of Moderates (ICGMM II) themed "ICGMM II: Moving towards Moderation" will be organised on March 11-12 with the aim of enhancing the peace and security of the international system.
The organiser of the event, Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF) said the conference serves as a platform to advocate moderation as a credible means to shape an environment conducive to constructive dialogue and peaceful collaboration.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, who mooted the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2010 and who is also the founder-patron of GMMF, will officiate the ICGMM II and deliver a keynote address at its opening session.
According to GMMF chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail, the organisation of ICGMM II coincides with the unique double role undertaken by Malaysia this year, as the Chair of Asean and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
"The event is also supportive of the Asean foreign ministers' recently-renewed commitment to combat violent extremism, including through the promotion of GMM," he said.
Participants of the conference include over 500 representatives from government, business, academia, civil society and media from more than 80 countries.
The strategic partners of ICGMM II are UN for Alliance of Civilisations (UNAoC) and the Asean Foundation.
