300 sailors to compete in Perdana Langkawi International Regatta 2015

    LANGKAWI: About 300 sailors, including from abroad, will compete in the five-day Perdana Langkawi International Regatta from the the National Sailing Centre, here, beginning Feb 11.
    Kedah Sailing Association deputy chairman Mohd Afendy Abdullah said the countries participating would be Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India, Bahrain, Kuwait and New Zealand, besides Malaysia.
    "States except Sarawak will also take part in the event which features 10 categories," he told Bernama.
    He said among the categories were the Optimist, Laser Radial, Laser Standard and Int 470.
    Mohd Afendy said Malaysia would send 30 sailors for the regatta as part of their preparations for the Sea Games in Singapore in June.
    Afendy, who is also Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) general manager, said a total of 70 sailors were participating in the selection camp in preparation for the Sea Games.
    He said 32 of them would be selected to spearhead Malaysia's challenge in sailing at the Sea Games.
    At the 2013 SEA Games hosted by Myanmar, Malaysia picked up two gold and three silver medals from the sailing events. – Bernama
